What is hydroponics

Hydroponic = "Working Water" from latin. Hydro = Water, Ponos = Work.

Hydroponics means water-based growing method. Form of growing plants in a detached medium without the use of soil feed. That is, a growth that takes place in nutrition through a liquid nutrient solution (water and fertilizer). In fact, the plant does not need the soil, since it only needs nutrients dissolved in water and stored in the soil from which it "drinks".

Many civilizations have historically adopted the hydroponic growing techniques - the hanging gardens of Babylon, the floating gardens of the Aztecs of Mexico and examples of hydroponics have also appeared in Chinese culture. Although hydroponics is also documented several centuries BC, significant steps and breakthroughs have been made in this innovative field of agriculture. During the last century, many experiments have been made with a variety of hydroponic growing methods by researchers, motivated by the many benefits that hydroponics has to offer and especially a particularly fast growth rate, the little need for spaces and the eliminating of the need to use soil.

Advantages of hydroponics:

  • Growth rate up to 3 times greater than a traditional soil growing.

  • Strikes the need for pesticides. (Up to 95% of pests live in the soil).

  • The growing method allows the plant to direct its resources to growth and flowering compared to energy directed to the roots for growth and search for water and thus reduces the need for a lot of space for the root house.

  • Space saving - can be grown vertically, in horizontal floors, inside buildings and on walls and as result, it reduce by up to 99% the need for space compared to growing in soil.

  • Savings of up to about 95% in water, compared to growing in soil, resulting in savings in fertilizer and irrigation time.

  • Little maintenance time compared to growing in soil - all you need is to fill the water reservoir, with water and fertilizer, once every few days-weeks. (It is recommended to replace all the water in the system every one or two months).

  • No land! All our food is clean from the first moment! It is easy to plant new plants and remove old plants using a reusable growing medium that is easy to remove even when the root house is tangled.

  • Everything is easy and simple! At any stage in the growing process, you can remove plants from the system with the planting cups, examine the condition of the roots and treat them, remove leaves/vegetables easily and move plants from one place to another very easily and without soiling!

Why you need a hydroponic system in your home:

  • Save on the grocery shopping cart so far as remove the need to buy vegetables.

  • Utilizing space while adding charm to the house - the system can be placed almost anywhere!

  • You can enjoy vegetables at a level of freshness that you have not yet known - pick exactly as much as you want and let the plant continue to grow without losing freshness or excess.

  • Preserve the nutritional value of the vegetables. Studies show that different types of vegetables can lose up to 90% of their nutritional value within a day! (Most produce loses 30% of its nutritional value three days after harvest).

  • Preserve the environment! Reducing the need to transport vegetables, travel to the jade and plastic packaging and bags.

  • Enjoy an amazing, simple and easy growing experience while adding educational value to the home and to the children
